5 Star vintage

The 2021 vintage began with a mild winter, supported by ample rainfall and two snowfalls that ensured excellent water reserves-crucial for the predominantly dry growing season that followed.

March was mild, before cooler-than-average conditions set in through April and May, with limited rainfall, chilly nights, and brisk mornings extending into early June. Despite the cool spring, Nebbiolo-an early-developing and typically vulnerable variety-was largely unaffected. Flowering and fruit set progressed smoothly, although yields were naturally lower, with crop levels estimated at around 10% down on 2020. This reduced the need for green harvesting and contributed to balanced vine performance across most vineyard sites.

Warmer conditions arrived in June, accompanied by brief rain events, followed by a warm yet moderate July. Overall, the summer was dry but never excessively hot. An intense storm on August 2nd brought some localized hail damage, while mid-August (particularly the second and third weeks) marked the peak of heat, with temperatures approaching 35°C. The first half of September remained warm, before cooler nights returned-an essential factor for optimal Nebbiolo ripening.

Harvest commenced on October 6th and concluded in Barbaresco by October 18th. The fruit was in excellent health, achieving optimal phenolic ripeness thanks to pronounced diurnal temperature variation. Yields were well balanced, with noticeably smaller berries than the previous year-resulting in high polyphenolic concentration, ideal for producing structured, age-worthy wines.

In conclusion, the 2021 vintage has delivered outstanding fruit quality, promising Barbaresco wines of depth, structure, and impressive aromatic complexity.
